What is Sports Massage?
A discipline of using massage for the specific benefit of all sports and exercise participants. It covers the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body e.g. muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Pre Event Sports Massage:
Provides competitors with the feelings of: Invigoration and Readiness for the Event.
It will warm and loosen up the muscular system, as well as sharpen the neurological system.
This session plays a vital role in the psychological preparation for the event by concentrating the mind on a state of readiness.
Post Event Sports Massage:
Helps the athlete recover from the event.
Massage will: release and loosen muscle tissues: speed up the removal of lactic acid (waste products): help alleviate the effects of muscle soreness.
Days After the Event:
- A Sports Massage Session will: Reduce aches and pains: remove DOMS; remove swelling; help prevent injuries; and relaxation.

Sports Massage Therapists
Emma Smith
I completed the Premier International Qualification of Sports Massage Therapy as part of the Fitness Excellence Diploma.
I regularly treat a number of clients, men and women of different ages, with a large variety of tight muscles and injuries created from everday life, ageing and sport.
Yearly I work at a wide variety of marathons providing sports massage to raise money for different charities: Flora London Marathon, Bath Half Marathon, Wellington 10K and Taunton Marathon and Half Marathon.
I regularly treat a variety of Sports Clubs: Taunton Tigers, Huish Academy and Wellington Whirlwinds Trampolining Club.
Vanessa Couth
Vanessa joined our Team in March 2010.
Vanessa has gained a Diploma in Sports Massage, and a course in Soft Tissue Release. 
She has delivered Sports Massage to private clients both people that participate in sport and people suffering from general tightness, repetitive strain injuries due to work and post operative work.
Vanessa also provided Pre and Post Massage at the Taunton Marathon and Half Marathon in 2009.
This season she has worked alongside the Physiotherapists and Sports Therapists at Bristol RFC, Massaging the 1st Team and Academy Players.
Claire Mackay
Claire joined the team in March 2010.
She has a diploma in Holistic Massage, Sports Massage and Injury, Remedial Massage and is qualified in Reiki.
She has gained experience treating people of all ages from different sporting backgrounds including: rugby, cricket, football, hockey and running. As well as treating people with conditions caused by the stresses of everyday life.
